Layerings | 36 Images
The visual richness
was astounding, and my
time in these cultures
transforming. I realized
during the first of two trips
to Southeast Asia that
montages might be a way
to express the complexity
and vibrancy that I was
experiencing. And I saw the
transparency and fluidity
of silks and rice paper used
as substrates as a way
to express my sense
of layerings. This was all
new technical territory.
The work in this exhibit is
unframed. To box in these
moments seemed the
antithesis to what they
were about.
